Tai Chi And The Balance Of Decluttering
π§ Progress, Patience & a Touch of Tai Chi
Balancing the Kitchen, the Kids’ Rooms, and a Whole Lot of Grace
Good afternoon, dear friends,
This week, according to the course I’m following, we’re meant to move on to the kids’ rooms.
But I’ll be honest—I’m not quite finished with the kitchen just yet.
So this week will be all about balance—tying up loose ends in the kitchen and pantry while gently stepping into the kids’ domain and perhaps even our guest bedroom. I keep reminding myself (as I hope you do too):
This isn’t a race. It’s a steady, meaningful journey.
π Saying Goodbye to Old Friends (Appliances, That Is)
Little by little, things are moving.
- Yesterday, I passed on our old bread maker
- Today, I listed my beloved—but long-unused—meat slicer and juicer
- Tomorrow, I hope to finally list our pizza oven
Letting go of these larger pantry items has already made a huge difference in creating space and simplifying access. It’s funny how much room a few appliances can take up… and how easy it is to forget they’re even there.
Oh, and Maggie Mae (our faithful SUV) is once again packed to the brim for another Goodwill run. She’s been such a dependable partner in this process. ππͺ
π¬️ A Morning of Stillness and Smiles
This morning brought something new and unexpected:
A Tai Chi class at our local library.
What a precious experience!
The people we met were kind, encouraging, and—thankfully—very patient. Watching them was like seeing a beautiful, balanced slow dance unfold. As for me? Well… I have terrible coordination and absolutely no choreography skills, so it was definitely a challenge. But oh, how I loved it.
To make the most of the trip, I also brought along:
π A couple of boxes of books
πΈ A box of vases for the library’s art projects
Decluttering meets community giving.
A perfect win-win.
π‘ Looking Ahead with Hope
Another exciting step this week:
We met with future house and pet sitters.
This feels like such a big milestone—another door opening as we slowly prepare to transition and embrace more flexibility and freedom. Life is gently unfolding new possibilities.
π§Έ Gentle Reminders for Family Spaces
As I start peeking into the kids’ rooms and the guest bedroom, here’s an important reminder I’ve learned and try to practice:
Don’t declutter anyone else’s things.
This rule always applies. You can only remove what belongs to you.
That said, when it comes to children’s spaces, you can set loving boundaries, such as:
- Giving them one shelf, wall, or bin for toys
- Teaching them to put items away after playing
- Guiding without controlling
This is as much about respect as it is about responsibility.
Wherever you are in your journey, I hope this week brings you clarity, space, and grace—in your home and in your heart.
Hugs,
Anke
